Action library

Actions are the vocabulary of your animatic. Combine them to turn a static script into a playable direction plan.

Every action

Common options

Timeline marker

Give an action a visual marker color so related beats stand out. Choose Default, Violet, Pink, Rose, Tangerine, Gold, Lime, Teal, or Indigo.

Save / update

Save action commits a new action. Update action commits changes to an existing one. Both create a new scene version; dialogue saves also generate voice audio when needed.

Change

While creating a new action, return to the type picker and choose a different action without starting over.

Delete

Remove the selected action after confirmation. Deletion is versioned, so the previous scene remains available in history.

Characters / movement

Move character

Create visible entrances, exits, approaches, and crossings. The character walks or runs toward another character or an exact screen position, then can settle into a new state.

Character & target

Choose the character, then set Target type to character or x. A character target lets the mover approach another person; x uses the 0–960 design-space position.

Offset, depth & gait

Offset fine-tunes the stopping point. Depth z controls distance toward the camera. Gait is none/default, walk, or run. Then selects the pose or animation after arrival from the grouped state list. Offset is available for character targets; Destination x sets an absolute position.

Characters / staging

Place character

Position a character instantly, without an entrance animation. Choose Character, Target type, Target or Destination x, and Depth z. Offset is available for character targets. Initial state sets the arrival pose, or choose Keep current pose. Use it for a hard cut, a pre-staged shot, or a continuity correction.

Characters / dialogue

Say line

Choose a Character and write the Text. Saving a new line generates voice audio; editing the text clears the previous audio so the new performance can be generated.

Characters / eyelines

Face character

Choose a Character and set Toward to left, right, another character, or a prop. Enable Track target to keep following a moving character or prop. Another Face action, a front/back character view, or a scene reset ends tracking.

Characters / performance

Set state

Choose a Character, then search the State picker or browse Basics, Posture, Gestures, With others, Emotion, and Objects. Options include sitting, crouching, dancing, hugging, crying, using a phone, picking up, and putting down. Duration optionally holds the state before the next action. Preview the pose with the surrounding staging to check the interaction.

Characters / angle

Set view

Choose a Character and switch between front, three-quarter, and back views. It is a simple way to make the visual language follow the camera.

Characters / appearance

Set look

Choose a Character, then select a saved movie look. The selected look is stored in the action and applies from that timeline point, so one character can change costume or appearance more than once in a scene.

Scene / framing

Camera

Camera actions are where you decide what the audience sees. Build a visual grammar for the scene, test it instantly, and keep the framing attached to the timeline.

Shot choices

Extreme wide

Establish scale, isolation, and the broadest view of the setting.

Wide

Establish the location, geography, entrances, and exits.

Full

Keep body language and movement visible head to toe.

Medium

Balance performance with enough surrounding context.

Close-up

Make expressions, important lines, and reactions read.

Extreme close-up

Put maximum emphasis on a tiny detail or clue.

Two-shot

Keep two characters and their reactions together.

Over the shoulder

Look past one character toward another for intimate dialogue coverage and point-of-view emphasis.

Target & targets

Target selects one character or No target. Targets is a multi-select for group framing. In an Over the shoulder shot, the first target is the foreground shoulder and the second is the subject.

Hard cut, tilt & zoom

Hard cut jumps instantly instead of easing. Tilt adds a Dutch angle in degrees. Zoom adds an extra zoom multiplier, such as 1.15 for a subtle punch-in.

Test shots

Preview every framing choice without saving it first. It is designed for fast visual comparison: choose a tile, watch the stage update, then close the panel when you have the shot.

Scene / mood

Light

Add a soft radial light source to the scene at a precise point in the timeline. Edit X position, Y position, Warm color, and Radius. Positions use the 960×540 scene design space; the default color is a warm yellow and the radius controls how far the glow falls off.

Scene / world

Background

Replace the visual environment at a precise point in the timeline. Choose a solid color with the picker or HEX/RGB field, upload an image, or use Create with AI to describe a setting and receive a generated background. Remove static color or Remove background image to change direction.

Color input accepts three- or six-digit HEX values and rgb() values. The generated or uploaded image is attached to the action draft and becomes part of the scene when you save it.

Scene / continuity

Reset

Clear the stage at this moment: characters return to their reset state, the location and props clear, speech/audio state resets, and the camera returns to a wide shot. Reset has no action-specific fields. When you save a Reset before other actions, the editor asks whether to remove everything after it. Confirming saves the full timeline as a version first, then removes those later actions; cancel to keep the timeline.

Timing

Wait

Hold the timeline for a number of seconds. A new Wait action starts at one second and is ideal for a breath, a reveal, a reaction beat, or deliberate space between actions.

Timing / advanced

Run in parallel

Run multiple actions at the same time, such as a camera change alongside movement. Existing groups display the number of nested actions. The editor does not currently provide controls to add or edit actions inside a parallel group; a newly created group starts empty.

Angle

Switch the whole scene between Front and Back viewpoints at a timeline beat. Back mirrors stage left and right for characters and free-standing props and shows the reverse of supported props. Walls, windows, floors, and wall decorations stay in place. The angle also applies to later character entrances; a Front action restores the original viewpoint. Use Set view when you only want to change one character.

New Angle actions start in Front view with Use original order selected. Switching to Back selects Reverse layers, which swaps characters and freestanding props while keeping set pieces, text, and lights in place. Switching to Front selects the original order again. The active order preset is highlighted; manual adjustments show as a custom order. Drag rows or use the arrows to adjust the order, then save the action. This layout lasts until the next Angle or Reset; earlier timeline beats keep their original layers. Changing the viewpoint selects its matching preset again. Angles without a saved layout use the base order.

Prop

Choose a built-in prop from the gallery or upload a prop image. Set X position, Y position, Width, Height, and Rotate °, or drag the prop on the stage. Built-in props support color replacement; supported props also offer Front and Back views. Uploaded images can be reused from the movie prop library.

Use props to build the set and provide eyeline targets. Adjust overlap in the Layers panel. Save the action to keep your placement.

Text

Add text over the scene and choose its color, font, normal/bold/italic style, alignment, font size, X and Y position, and rotation. Use this for labels and annotations that appear with the scene. Use Title card for a separate screen with a timed duration.

Sound

Upload audio or open the sound gallery to choose a movie sound or a SceneFlow sound. Preview the selection, then set Duration to control how much is heard. Sound plays in the background without extending the timeline; add a Wait or other timed actions if the scene needs to continue while it plays.

The gallery also offers AI sound creation. Describe the sound and optionally choose a generation length from 0.5 to 30 seconds. Listen to the preview, name it, and choose Save & use sound to add it to the movie library and the current action.

Title card

Enter title or credits text, choose text and background colors, and set Duration. The card fills the screen for that time, then returns to the scene.

Accessories

Choose a character and change long sleeves, gloves, head accessories, and left- and right-hand accessories at this timeline point. The rest of the current look stays in place. Preview the result before saving; use Set look for a full appearance change.

Improve dialogue with AI

In a Say line action, open Improve dialogue with AI. Choose an idea such as Add subtext or Introduce conflict, or describe your own direction. Generate a suggestion, review and edit the rewrite, then use it in the scene. The suggestion does not replace the dialogue until you accept it.
